Experience the classic romance of old Africa with veteran photographic workshop leaders Eddie Soloway and Renie Haiduk. Safari means “journey” in Swahili, and this promises to be an epic one in an African countryside that is still wild, unspoiled, and far removed from the political turmoil that plagues some areas. Our adventure begins with arrival at Kilimanjaro airport in the shadow of the famous mountain. From there, Peter Jones of Tanganyika Film and Safari Outfitters (TFSO) transports us to Ndarakwai, his privately owned, exclusive, 11,000-acre game preserve, elephant sanctuary, and camp. Paleoanthropologist-turned-safari-guide, Peter has carved out a permanent tented guest retreat near his home and is actively working to preserve both the wildlife and the way of life of the local people. Wild animals are plentiful around Ndarakwai in a diversity of habitats, from riparian woodland and acacia savannah, to open grassland with views of Mounts Meru and Kilimanjaro. The advantages of staying at a private camp include limited access by others, less-crowded safari vehicles, the flexibility to follow animals off-road, and the opportunity for night drives. After lunch on the 23rd, we will take a charter flight and begin a five night journey with stops in the Serengeti Park, Olduvai Gorge, and the Ngorongoro Crater. Our last three nights are back at Ndarakwai, with opportunities to meet and photograph the colorful Maasai people in two villages nearby, continue exploring the diverse landscape of Peter's preserve, and consider an optional photographic flight around Mount Kilimanjaro. Photographic help and inspiration will be provided daily in the form of creative indoor sessions and in-the-field reminders. Several image review sessions will be available for those photographers bringing laptops, editing software, and knowledge of the digital workflow. With that said, photographers of all levels, using film or digital cameras, are welcome. A list of recommended equipment will be provided upon registration.

The safari is strictly limited to 12 persons. The price for this unique opportunity is $9850.00 per person, double occupancy. For single occupancy, add $850. Early Registration Discount: Save $250.00 by registering by February 15th. In the unlikely event that the workshop does not fill, deposits and payments are guaranteed. Price includes accommodations, guides, pilots and drivers, all meals during our time with TFSO, wine, beer, and drinks at Ndarakwai, internal ground and air transportation, park entrance fees, permits and all tips. Travel to Kilimanjaro airport, the optional flight around Mount Kilimanjaro, and items of a personal nature are not included.
